I am skilled at generating lots of bad feelings alongside many wonderful feelings. THE STORY OF MY LIFE !!!!! Many of us adopt these GOALS as close expected standards : ✧ To feel physically and psychologically comfortable✧ To perceive my world as safe enough✧ To spend my time and energy on tasks and relationships I enjoy✧ To feel confident in my decisions and that I am heading in the right direction✧ To avoid mistakes✧ To experience a sense of success✧✧ To feel satisfied and cont [...]

I think these self-help type psychology books are meant for those with no self-awareness and no idea about the basics of psychology. Maybe I've read too many psychology books or maybe the few psychology classes I've taken have given me a greater understanding of our brain and mental health, but I feel most of these self-help books are regurgitating the same facts over and over just using slightly different analogies and personal experiences. If someone has never taken psych or has never read a s [...]

This is actually a really good book and it explained lots of things to me, but I don't have the desire to actually finish the book. Lots has changed, since I picked this book up and it's just not working for me anymore.

Not for me, but could help someone else. I never bash a book when it could possibly help someone with something they are struggling with.

The book talks about worries and then the other spectrum of them becoming never quieting and festering thoughts always on our minds, other words anxiety building over time.It compares anxiety of varying sorts and how it plays away on our vulnerability and thoughts of not coming across in many ways either positive or negatively. It talks of triggers in life causing anxiety from trauma and situations before where you are now and action g on urges and challenging yourself by putting the reader/us th [...]

Mastering Anxiety For DummiesStopping the noise in your head by Dr. Reid Wilson paddles through your worst adversities with an interesting theory by how worries manifest to controlling your life and how you can transform them to taking back control of your life. Given the author embraces personally his theory throughout the worries that he faced to his outdoor activities, such when being a member of CHAOS rowing, to his personal bad days with a toilet, you can tell both implicitly and explicitly [...]

Here’s why I found "Stopping the Noise in Your Head" such an excellent book: My mom and dad and I read it together. A true intellectual diagnosed later in life with bi-polar disorder, my 89-year-old dad has developed serious issues with anxiety over the past five or six years. My mom is 85, quite healthy, but seems to have acquired some of his negative anxiety traits fairly recently. We worked this book together, underlining, highlighting and learning page by page. "Stopping the Noise in Your [...]

My particular problem, or “theme” as the author would call it, is something like social anxiety. This is the only book to help me cope with my crippling self-conscious thoughts and anxieties. Looking to reread it and try even harder challenges in my own life.

I felt like I would have been satisfied with just reading a simple article. If you like examples, this book is perfect. He goes into his personal case stories of patients. Most of the information I've heard before. What was new was making a game out of anxiety. Very interesting.

Reid it! If you have fear or worries you need to read this book! It can help you with all your problems and make you look at life differently!

Witty with touches of humor, it provides useful techniques to solve your anxiety due to concerns. The first part of the book is very interesting and provides useful resources for anyone who wants to better understand the psychological mechanisms of concern and implement personal strategies to be solved more effectively. I think the technique of distinguishing between noise is very valuable (thoughts that increase your anxiety, do not necessarily have a real foundation, or the solution does not de [...]

As someone who's been struggling with anxiety for decades, I found this book really helpful and inspiring. I'll try to apply this technique in the following months and see what results it will yield. However, I do have one small niggle - it's repetitive and a hundred pages too long. ***ARC provided via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review***

ARC received from: NetgalleyRating: 4.5* One-Sentence Summary: How to fight anxietyReview: Anxiety is so big a part of my life, even the thought of reading a book about anxiety makes me anxious but I am very glad that I got given an ARC of this and had the chance to read it.Wilson's writing style if very conversational and therefore he made a book about a tricky subject very easy to read. He never lectures and seems to really understand what anxious people are going through, even though it all s [...]

I felt this was a well written book about dealing with anxiety. The people who might find this book most helpful are those that suffer from the more extreme forms of anxiety such as OCD, panic disorders, and phobias, rather than those suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder.I liked the fact that the author made a distinction between a signal something the brain sends to prepare for a realistic danger) and noise which is generated bu either unrealistic fears or situations that we can't change [...]

If you are looking for a book to help you manage anxiety and worry, this is the book to buy. After I heard Dr. Wilson present the concepts in this book several years ago at a conference, I started applying them in my own life, and what he suggests really works! In this book, he walks you step-by-step through how to take a different stance toward anxiety, and how to play a new game with it--a game that you can win. I'm also a therapist specializing in anxiety disorders, and I recommend this book [...]

Worry is a universal plague with which all mankind (womankind too) must deal. Wilson helps the reader understand that this common plague has its value. Worry at its best is a signal which demands an action. It is one way which our mind uses to get our attention and helps us respond to a situation. As Wilson points out though, much of worry is pure noise. There is nothing we can do about the situation or the concern. We continue to mull over the same bits of trouble in our minds moving, not towar [...]

An informative self help book for people with anxiety. I liked the emphasis on the difference between 'noise' and 'signal' and the workings of the Amygdala. Varies anxieties were discussed with various case studies and examples of how to deal with the reduction of the anxiety which specific situations caused. Clear explanations of being able to step ahead into the path of ones anxiety. Easily adapted to ones own anxieties. Lots of work through the essence of paradox. Author really does need to " [...]

Stopping the Noise in Your Head by R. Reid Wilson is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in the first week of May amongst a large group of people (which had once been a source of anxiety for me).Wilson's narration changed instantly between the introduction and the main body of the book; from self-disclosure to being fully engaged with the reader in an easy-to-read, engaging, and harmlessly witty way. He teaches ways to reframe anxiety and to have it work with your other emotions/impulses in a pos [...]

Realities of the hidden, which reflect in how we act to continuous avoidance of pain, whether perceived or real. This allows you to accept the hidden by exposing it, testing it, and taking action. Great read for anyone seeking to better understand themselves better. I learned that we all suffer from some levels of the issues, having the ability to be honest, recognize and act upon those moments of anxiety is what will make us more effective and happier.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.I'm always looking for books to help me deal with my mental illnesses and it's various symptoms. One of them happens to be anxiety. This book would be helpful to me to a degree, and I'm looking forward to buying my own copy eventually. I will have to mention this book to my therapist.I don't think this book would be for everyone, and I think you have to be ready for these kind of techniques.

Lesson: think of anxiety itself as a nagging meany-voice in your own head to which you may say "no, not now, jerk". I found this story-building, god-making, role-playing approach helpful. It works with my fantasy- and religiously-geared mind.
