This is in many ways both the strongest and weakest volume of the series so far. This volume deals with the aftermath of the war as new, bigger players are introduced, such as the rulers of the Gran Chaos Empire. The world in Realist Hero becomes a much bigger place this volume, and that's a good thing. Mixing in history with strategy is where the author shines, and it gets plenty of opportunities to do that here.On the negative, this is a really slow volume. It takes a while for things to ramp [...]

The sort of set up / calm after the storm type volume, Realist Hero 3 focuses a bit more on diplomacy and Souma's ladies. On the lady front, the cover features Juna, grandaughter of Excell Walter, as she does get an ok amount of play in this volume, specifically her role as an entertainer on the Jewel Voice broadcasts gets expanded on. Still, Liscia and Ayisha get almost as much if not more play then her. Other women do enter the story, but no one that seems too significant to the dynamic yet.I'd [...]

This series continues to be one of my new favorite light novels. I love how pragmatic and realistic the characters seem as well as new pieces of info that lead to more ambiguity about what is what. I cannot wait for the next volume in this series!

Really good!Another in the series of (relatively) light kingdom intrigue. I really enjoy the novelty of an intrigue novel with equal numbers of good people and bad ones. Thanks for all your hard work!

This series has EVERYTHING!Thrilling negotiations!Exciting infrastructure planning!Stupendous variety shows!Dashing sweater vests!

Too good but too shortIt's very good but it's too short for what it costs!!!! Seriously you could read it in a day and be done before you know it because it's just too good!!!

The volume keeps getting better with Souma maturing and the people around him show their worth and skills in supporting him

I liked it. I'm hooked on the series. In this volume the King negotiates a territorial withdrawal , makes an alliance, consolidates power, establishes an intelligence agency and gets engaged. Some of these events aren't exactly ideal, but hey, it's actually reflective of history, especially Ottoman, Byzantine, Chinese, Korean and Japanese imperial history -and the multifaceted aspects of trying to govern and stabilize a medieval society that had local power bases, poor communications and a basic [...]
